Outstanding work from CollegeHumor, Sam Reich comes back and directs the shit out this short. Well played Sam and team!

Galactic Empire State of Mind: He’s got 99 problems but a Jedi ain’t one. Our favorite video in a while. So many people put so much work into this one, so it’d be especially cool if you guys dugg it.

Sam Reich:

“Galactic Empire State of Mind,” directed by me.  Also written by Conor and Owen with some help from Ben, produced by Ben, shot by Vince, and edited by David.  But the list of people is too long to thank.

Ben casually suggested shooting this against projections, and I thought of the IAC video wall.  Looking at the Jay-Z video, I then thought of editing Star Wars to be black-and-white and to the rhythm, and having Darth Vader rap against it.

Rocco Chierichella, who played a Stormtrooper in our 9/11 video, does an incredible job of filling out the Vader costume.  Lindsey Liberatore gets down as Leia, and the dancers, choreographed by Celia Rowlson-Hall, kill it.  That’s David Fishel as Chewbacca and Little Michael Jackson as an Ewok.  David’s opening - the Star Destroyer cut to the rhythm of the song - has to be my favorite part, if not the Max Rebo piano built by Bennett.

I got a little teary directing C3PO and R2.  As Jake says, I was high-fiving my childhood self.
